I have a Pentax Optio M30 camera. My Father use to have a Pentax in the 1930's and I still have pictures he did make which were great in quality. I thought buying a great American product and I should upgrade my 4 MP camera as well, a couple years ago I did buy this M30. To begin with – it is made in Vietnam. The camera makes overall lousy pictures, there is no way to produce one without to edit it. But that is not even a problem. The problem is that it cannot produce any outside picture without the so-called noise, the vertical reddish lines. I am not a photographer by any means but I do take my time and did read the manual and tried out several different settings without succeeding. My settings are: W Balance: Daylight, Sensitivity: 200, EV Compensation: -.03, Sharpness: +, Saturation: middle, Contrast: middle.

These adjustments are which producing the least lines. The factory settings are the most.

I think it is hopeless, but before buying something else (thinking of Sony DSC-W170) perhaps there is some trick I did not yet tried out and would help me since I spent about $350.00 on this camera including the replacement of the battery charger which was left in a hotel.

Any idea – including throwing it out – will be appreciated.

Vertical reddish lines on outside shots are not noise - they may be the sign of a defective sensor.

If your sensor is defective and your camera isn't under warranty, it doesn't pay to fix it - time to buy a new camera.
