Pentax say that the S50 isn't specified to work with MMC cards, but fyi I have found that my 256Meg (Medion) and 512Meg (KingMax) mmc cards work with no problems.

Most MMC cards are rated for a maximum write speed of around 300kb/second.

The slowest SD Cards are usually around 2mb/second (more than 6 times as fast as a typical MMC card).

I have noticed that some of the newer MMC cards are faster (I see that Kingsmax is claiming 2mb/second for their 512mb MMC Card now). So, that's probably why your MMC cards work (they're about as fast as the slowest SD cards now).
