AFter using the usb for the optio s4 on my xp operating system, it crashed. The message on the system was about a recent new device which was the usb optio connection. I am now afraid to try it again and would like to just print photos using a photo printer bypassing the computer. Has anyone had this problem and if so what to do about it. What photo printer would work with this camera?

Thanks

Well, you're going to want to keep a copy of your images on your PC anyway, right?

That way, you can reprint them, e-mail them, post them to web sites, etc. It's kind of hard to do those things if you don't have a way to get them to your PC.

Chances are, the problem is with your Windows Configuration rather than with the camera.

Are you running SP2 (or even SP1). In some cases, SP1 was needed for USB to work properly with some models. In other cases, SP2 messed up USB.

Some users have reported that removing all USB related drivers solved the problem after installing SP2with some other cameras (letting Windows reinstall them). In other cases, you could have another device conflicting with camera. See the posts in this thread:

If you can't get it to work properly, buy a card reader. They're very inexpensive now (around $19.95 at many retailers for USB 2.0 Card Reader that will give you much faster transfers than you'll get from the camera anyway).

This ist what I also think.

And this is what Billy recommends to overcome the problem:
