They appear to be the same camera – evidently for different markets. I think the S5Z is the only one available in the US. http://www50.shopping.com/xPC-Pentax_Optio_S5z~S-P~OR-0

I would opt for the S5i unless you are interested in the movies. Not having a viewfinder can be a nuisance in bright sunlight.

Thanks for the reply. I currently have a S5i and use it use in a Radio Controlled airplane. The camera takes fantastic AP photographs. I want to take movies but the movie mode on the s5i is pretty crummy. Are the movies really up to par on the S5Z?

I'm thinking about selling the S5i and get the S5z, but is it worth it?

I use the camera mostly in the plane or for snapshops so a view finder is not essential. I use my Panasonic Z20 for other general photography.

The Pentax site for the s5nstates that it has a 2" lcd screen, and the site for the s5z states that it has a 2.5" screen, is that accurate - are they different?

You are right. The 5N is only 2 inches. I don't see the point since they still didn't manage to fit a viewfinder on it. Not sure they plan to release it though – you can get the 5Z but not the 5N.

From what I have read, the size of the display is the only difference. Too bad the 2.5" display of the s5z has the same resolution as the 2" display of the s5n. I think I am going for the s5n which is $50 cheaper.

You must have good near vision. Mine isn't great and the 2.5 inch display on my new Z750 is a godsend. If I put my cheaters on I can see it is blocky, but I don't usually use them and the display looks great.

The S5n seems to be available everwhere but the US.

Isnt the s5z slightly bigger than the s5n?ThePentax UK site has both:

s5n: 83 x 52 x 20.5mm

s5z: 83 x 55 x 21.5mm

I wonder how much of a difference it really is. I have a s4 and looks like the s5n is more closer to the s4

S5z is a newer version than S5n, and has a 2.5" LCD. My friend owns one, very nice.
