This is my first post of a shot taken with my new D300. The weather where I'm based has been terrible so I thought I'd practice my portrait skills.

Shot using window light from camera left and off camera strobe camera right, the latter being fired through a white umbrella.

Comments and critique would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

Matt, thanks god we've seen an image taken with your new tool :-)

The colourslook so impressively conveyed even at first sight! The tropical picturedistract greatly from the model whose thoughtfulexpressionsuggest some relation withit on the other hand!Or should thepicture be placed at the backgroundcloser tothe model, letting perceptionconceive them unbroken???

PS. I'd also like to know theiso ; )

Hi Bahadir!

I new I could at least rely on you for constructive feedback!

I have to agree entirely regards the poster, I originally left it in the shot as most young teeneagers tend to have posters on their bedroom walls but now after reading your helpful comment I to think that the poster steals the eye too much!

Also I spent a great deal of time working the shot in Photoshop (I ended up with about 18 layers with this one) as I was trying to recreate the effects of the masterful Dave Hill:

to much attention on editing and not eneough on composition! Ansel Adams would be disappointed!

Incidentally the iso was 200, I could shoot low due to the off camera strobe!

Thanks for your insightful comments!
