Just got my Olympus E300 with zoom & wide lens. purely recreational... Today was my first outing with it. great camera... but i was shooting midday, so light was very harsh, hence the shadow'ed area....

Doesn't look like anyone else has chimed in so I'll take a stab... first off she's very pretty - nice eyes too. If it were my shot, I would have used the camerain portrait orientation and placed her face in the upper half or third of the shot. I might have sat her down on the ledge above her and then stood over her so she was looking up into the camera (to see those pretty eyes). I'm not sure if you're using the on-camera flash for fill but the light from below seems a little harsh (her shirt is blown out.) Maybe something to reflect light from a higher angle to even that out. Also, moving her away from the background if possible(maybe not - it looks like you trying to keep her out of the sun) would blur it a bit and separate your subject from it. Not sure how much feedback you were looking for but hope that helps. You guys have a lot of potential for good shots.

thanks for the reply! i agree 100% light was a major problem. 1 metre away from background, or onto the ledge, and into the african sun. but not too worry, way more to come. i will plan the lighting better

It's a nice shot but the white of her shirt/blouse seems a little bright.

You could probably dodge it a little in photoshop and you'll be all set.

Congratulations on your camera and your girlfriend!
