This is a wonderful character study. I would just comment that the space to the right is pointless. I would crop it so that the photo had a "portrait"mode instead of the "landscape' mode, and get rid of everything that isn't granny.

I like it as is. Cropping off the right would ruin the effectiveness of the excellent DOF & your use of the rule-of-thirds!

Every picture tells a story and this says a lot. Grandmothers don't get enough credit for what they do (I know I'm married to one) Hope this lady is happy wherever she is-great shot.

I do feel the need to respond to this, because I think it's flawed analysis. It is clear that granny's eyes are the focus of this portrait. If you crop the image as suggested, her eyes will be on the upper third "line" of the resulting composition.

I don't think that the rule of thirds is inviolate by any stretch of the imagination. You may well still think that the dead space serves a valuable compositional purpose. But the rule of thirds isn't the justification ofyour compositional preference.

I think you've got a very good point tclune and it does look good cropping out the space as well.
