Hi guys,

I'm trying to practice my portrait technique and would appreciate some feedback on my post processing methods.

This is a shot of my girlfriend that i took today. I simply worked the shot to improve the skin tones etc.

Comments would be greatly appreciated!

She is a beautiful girl but the work you have done on her skin is quite evident. It looks like you selected areas and used a gaussian blur. You might want to check out a plugin called Portraiture by Imagenomics. Im not sure exactly what it is capable of but I do know it fixes skin. So it must be pretty good at that.

People have pores...especially this close! When you are doing blemish removal or skin-smoothing, you should try to replace the pores (at least)...unless you are using a Professional Makeup Artist. They will use a foundation on the model and eliminate most pores & blemishes anyway...like this:

Thanks for the feedback guys.

The look i was going for was more of a glamour shot. Up close the pores were really evident and also my girlfriend has a very faint birthmark on the right hand side of her face, so I used the median noise filter to soften the skin and then masked out the eyes and mouth (i forgot the eyebrows!). I never use gaussian blur as it mixes pixels on the edge which i don't particularly like.

Bynx, thanks for the helpful sugestion re: the action but i tend to stay away from actions unless i have made them as i prefer to retain control over the editing process.

Kalypso, I will deffinitly try makeup next time!
