These two photos were taken just after the coach's team had won a major local basketball tournament. He chose to share the moment with his two-year-old. I took two slightly different photos. Which do you think is stronger, and why?

I have my own preference, but I'd be curious as to the opinion of others.

#1 of course!

1. Poignant expressions on both -- much more in their faces than #2
2. Background less distracting
3. No glossy forehead, much better exposure overall
4. Nice capture(s)!
5. Happy Old Year, all!

Hi
I prefere second one. But both pics missing acurate WB. Missing redish or pinkish colour. Do you agree?

No 1 is my pick

Their are a few things I don't like about No 2
the person in the background is distracting
the placement of the mans hand bothers me, not sure why
and the biggest I can't see the mans eyes

In No 1 the eyes are still a little dark but I can see them.

OK I didn't notice at first but I see now you blured the background in PS. You really need to start over and try to get a better selection/mask

#1 is focused better but I like the expressions in #2 myself.

I liked the first one better, though thought it really needed some touch up. I gave it a quick brush up, and liked the results a little better, though it could still use more. There is a halo effect around your subjects, and I am guessing that is a mask where you added some blur to the background? It becomes more evident as the photo is cleaned up, and will look alot worse in print, so you might want to address that.

The first shot has direct contact with the viewer from both the man & the boy, and the hand gesture is meaningful. The second fails on both counts.
