Mark, a really nice set of photos conveying the mood of the day. I was interested to see flash fired on all shots.

Thanks. In the harsh sunlight I needed to do everything possible to get rid the shadows but I probably should have boosted the flash a little (in hindsight). It was an interesting experience that is for sure.

mark these are great. i see you use the 24-105. i have the xsi and i just got the 50d. i use the 17-55 as my primary lens and am needing a lens for my backup camera . i was debating the 24-70 or the 24-105. you seem pretty sharp on this stuff so i am going with the 24-105 .just wanted your opinion on how it will work on my xsi or the 50d. thanks for your help.

It is a lovely sharp lens but unless you are going to move to FF I'm not sure that it is the best option for a 2nd lens. You already have most of this covered with the 17-55 as well as the advantage of f2.8. I would most likely consider a 70-200mm f2.8 if I were you so you have more diversity in shooting opportunities. I often cover events with the 24-105 on the 5D and the 70-200 on the 1D mkIII. I'm not saying it won't work on a 50D, as I use the 24-105 on my 30D when I go on holiday and want to have cheaper kit with me. I also take a Panasonic TZ5 with me for video, 'snap shots' and wider angle.

Thanks John, as you can tell, I'm doing less and less sports shooting these days. Another reason I'm thinking of getting the 5D mkII sometime next year and selling the 1D, we shall have to see. I do also shoot quite a bit of video and would love to be able to have a shallow dof when working with moving image too.
