Default The Pose

Alright.. my girlfriend got her picture taken from one of her free-lance photographer friends and uploaded a poor quality version of it.

The original (that was uploaded) was pixelated as you can see by the chin. What I have done was quickly threw it through Neat Image to try and clean it up.

What do you think? I will get access to the original negative so I can get prints of this shot done. I love it.... to me it shows of her personallity.. loving and fun!

What else could I do to this image to make it look better?

I think Neat Image did a nice job without it looking like one of those glamour portraits. I would clone out that line up from her left eye if it is in the original. You will probably have to use different settings in Neat Image working from the original. I take it you have access to a film scanner.

You might also experiment with applying Neat Image to a layer and erasing just around the eyes to sharpen them a little by letting the original through. That is a standard technique. You might want to sharpen just the original layer a little before doing that.

I agree it is a very natural looking portrait and appropriate for your wall. Besides noise and grain removal, Neat Image is a terrific portrait tool.

Not only a perfect shot, she is such a lovely girl. Her personality shows through.

If you ever come to Cincinnati ...... (^J^)

Very nice enhancement of your girlfriend's photo, Gimli

Nice also is the color coordination of your face in your
avatar and your girlfriend's jumper

Very nice shot and beatiful girl with a wonderful expression.
You are a lucky man !

And now my attempt near the original:

Aliasing
There was an aliasing around the face : I tried to reduce it with a soft blur brush.
However, when I reached the area near the mouth i noticed ...

Interfering objects
the "neck of the poolover" (Sorry , I don't know the exact name) was was near the face interfering with the siluette. I clone stamped the black area to remove it and I proceeded with the antialiasing as in the step before.

Sharpening
Eyes, mouth, teeh, hairs have been sharpened with a soft sharp tool brush.

Eyes
I added some catch lights : these few pixels make a big difference. Just draw a white arc with a soft brush and the use a soft blur brush to soften the reflection

Dominant Color
There was a greenish dominant colour.I removed it clicking on what I'm supposing to be a white/grey object : the chair aside her face.
I don't know however if this op is better to the photo or not : the greenish light was nice.

Wow nice editing job. I do agree with you, with the eyes adding those two little catch lights makes it look better.

Thank you
