Default In the balcony...

Here are some impromptu shots of my sister in law in the balcony (where I'm used to shooting cloudscapes!), using the on board flash as fill flash and a polarising filter to decrease the aperture number a few stops so as to attain a somewhat blurred background for the subject to stand out. I'd be pleased to know your order of preference and suggestions (including my giving up portraits )

JUST ADDED #6, Thank you : ) Below, in the replies, is a larger version!

I'm going 5,3, and 2, mainly because she has dark smoldering eyes that look great looking right back at you :-) Good shots.

I agree with soliz39 #5, #3 and then #2. Those eyes are hypnotic. You have a beautiful subject. If anything, maybe a minor improvement in the lighting. Most of her face is in shadow, while her neck and right shoulder are in sun light. I find that uneveness of lighting a little distractcting, but a minor issue. Overall very appealing photos, she seems to be very photogenic. They bring a smile to my face.
I think you need a more challenging subject before we can judge your portraiture skill.

Numbers 1 and 2 for their distant and then intimate smiles; 5 for the intensity of expression.

What a beautiful lady!

Hi bahadir, 5,3,1,4,2 for me, what I would do if it was me,I would not have her facing straight at the camera, slightly side on with her head turned to you, I think the fill flash is not to bad,she is a very beautiful lady and you have done her proud.

If you give up portrait photography that will be an injustice to beautiful women everywhere, let alone us guys who are attractively challenged, looking on.

Nice pictures, and such beautiful eyes! I think that #2 for the composition (#3 is nice but the wisp of hair is distracting; in #1 she's not looking into the lens, it almost looks as if she's a cast in her left eye), and #5 for the lighting.

I'm delighted to read your empathetic feedback : ) She's realy nice to talk to! Actually I decided to add #5 at the last moment. Now I feel rewarded reading your comment

Thank you for your extensive comment. I bet your kind compliments will please her when I relate her : ) Again, I feel so happy not to have excluded #5! Actually I'd like more of her face to be illuminated by the sun since I like light interplay in general. Btw, an external flash unit such as 'Metz 48' would be better perhaps. A more challenging subject..? Well, my landlady's niece perhaps...since I'm a bit shy to ask

Thank you Alan! Speaking of 'distant smiles' I favour her smile in #1 and #2, #1 especially reminding me, somehow, that of Glenn Close's in one of her cult films 20 years ago; Les Liaisons Dangereux !!
