i know it is not perfect but im learning and i think when i find a better subject than myself and put a bit more time in and work on the lighting i should get there

Impressive. They are eye catching. Problem I see with this hard tweaking is the picks end up somewhat, how can I say... grotesque, to the evil side of grotesque. But obviously the possibilities are vast. Congrats and good luck with your search.

The first shot of yourself is really good for a first attempt. I like it as it is. The shadowed area might be a bit lighter but the rest is to me, very eye catching. Skin can be so boring being usually all blown out. But this technique brings out every pore and gives the viewer something to digest. Looking back I think Id like to see your photo without the left side shadowed at all. I think the photo would stand on its own.

I'm of the personal opinion that when you notice processing's been done, you've done it wrong. in these examples, the photos are secondary to the processing, instead of the other way around.

To be fair, I think they are pretty similar to the examples you posted, especially the latter ones. I just think the examples are, themselves, are overprocessed.
