Default Is this a cute baby or what?

This baby is in the witness protection program. He can be found everyday on East 7th Street in Manhattan. I've already sold his picture to a porn site, but thought I'd post it here to get feedback...

I warned Mom that I would do this if she didn't fork over BIG BUCK$ -

Shot with the Sigma DP2 - and these are crops...

No offense, but the really horrible aspect of my "jokes" is that to many people the idea that this picture could be posted on a porn site, is a "serious statement."

We are robbing our children of their childhood in the name of a mythological safety.

Good pictures of a very cute baby but the jokes are in bad taste.

I would be more impressed with your critique of my sarcastic humor, if either you or Ordo had interjected when a member said that he would beat anyone to a pulp who took a picture of their child. As if to say that taking such shots of children and babies is defacto proof of pedophilia.

Presumably, the following shot is an example of this kind of work. Kid doesn't seem to mind. A shame that I blew it.

When I was younger, I took a special delight in photographing children. Their innocense, their delight in things we take for granted, is one of the Great Joys of photography. Now, unless you are photographing the children of immigrants, you are a pervert. Immigrants have not yet been conditioned to believe that a handful of sick people should destroy the childhood of children.

This is getting boring really. You're always bringing up some kind of controversy.
I'm sick about that and will not replay to your posts anymore.

chato i have kept out of commenting on these threads although i have read every post .... why well as ive been trying to stay neutral ........ i argee with the above your opening to this thread is in very bad taste , i think its time to move on instead of bringing up yesterdays news sort of speak .

i am a member of a photographic society in my local town in the uk i actually know a couple who have actually been assaulted and some approached aggresivley for not asking permission to photograph children it is very much frowned upon and in todays society i dont blame them.
i always ask people if possible if i can photograph them out of politeness i personally have only been refused once and this was by a punk rocker earlier this year but his friend was happy to let me.
my nephew who recently turned 5 had a birthday party at local place over twenty children turned up i asked all there parents if they minded me taking pictures of there kids again out of politeness i also gave them a oppurtunity to get a copy of all the images taken as i made it possible at the time .

if it is possible to ask and i feel the people are approachable then i will if not i wont take the shot.

anyway now youve got the attention and little response forgive and forget lets move on.

i also admin a forum not photograph related but i know when search engine spiders / spyders pick up the words p0rn and peodos it attracks unwanted visitors .... spammers etc

I always ask permission to photograph children. Not because I believe I should have to, but because people have become increasingly irrational on this subject.

Perhaps I shouldn't have posted those remarks - But I am very annoyed. Since you've followed these posts, then you are aware that I've been called every name under the sun - From having no moral compass to being a coward. Now I never use "fighting words" from the anonymity of the net. Nor have I insulted anyone by hiding in the anonymity of the net.

And if one stops and thinks about this question, no photograph that I can take of a child matches the provacatively posed shots in a childs fashion magazine or video.

When I was a kid my parents warned me not to go with a stranger - The real dangers are no different today then they were then. But they did not attempt to instill a fear in me, that EVERY stranger was some sort of dangerous pervert - They did not rob me of my childhood, as we are robbing todays kids.

Let's stop the arguments (including sarcastic remarks, etc.). We've already debated this issue in more than one forum thread, and it's pretty obvious that neither side is willing to compromise on how they feel about candid photos.

So, please, let's stick to comments about the photos, versus comments on the merits of being able to take them.

We're a pretty friendly community here (in most cases). So, please, don't let a disagreement over what's OK to photograph get in the way of how we get along here. Let's just agree to disagree.

Thanks.

I agree with Jim..I loved the photos of a real cute kid..I didn't quite understand the comments, but that's probably more due to being new here.

Where I am from, it would'nt be an issue to photo kids..and its fair to say that most people that wanted to photo someone's kid would ask or at least say 'hey look at a shot I took..I can delete it or give you a copy..I thought it was cool' And I don't think he'd get punched out.

I think its different then photoing an adult tho..more issues involved.

But I DO appreciate that there is a dark side to this world...and that's where judgment comes in...and it would be sad if recording beauty, innocence of this generation is lost entirely
