Default Biker on Fifth Avenue

Sometimes I stand in a corner and take pictures of NYC taxis using a technique called "panning". While panning taxis on Fifth Avenue, I saw a biker coming and took a shot.

The camera must have metered on a dark spot because it left the shutter open longer and overexposed much of the shot. I was actually starting to aim for the next taxi when I heard the shutter close. I thought the effect was interesting, however, because I can still make out the intense look on the biker’s face.

I used a Sony A350 with DT50mm F1.8SAM lens.

It certainly has come out as an interesting shot and a little less blur would have been great.

I personally would never shoot panning shots in Av as your desire is to control shutter speed. Using Tv is a much better option as each one will be the same shutter speed and you can use this to get the amount of blur you require. Better still use manual mode then you will get the exposure you like as well (assuming lighting conditions are staying constant).

My reaction as well, even the face in the cab adds to the image - Just a wee bit clearer and this would have been awesome.

Thanks for the tip, Mark1616! I'll try it.

Thanks, Ordo and Chato! I'll forget the rest and just remember "awesome" just kidding .
