Thanks a lot, jgredline!

I'm sure you noticed the leaves on the left -- I wasn't hiding in the bushes!

I was using a street flower pot as tripod while composing my shot of the pretty door on one of the brownstones on the eastside of Manhattan when the postman arrived. He parked his cart right in front of me -- pretty much in my face -- and sorted through his mailbag looking for mail to deliver at this address. He was going about his business as if I wasn't even there. So naturally I snapped photos.

On his way back he again sorted through his mailbag then took an inquiring look at me -- I'm still there with my camera poised at him and the door behind him -- as if wondering if there is something to say in a situation such as this. Maybe to him a good-morning-howya-doin didn't seem fit.

That's when I noticed how old he looked. His tired-looking eyes peering above his bifocals made me think that. He looked as if he has been delivering mail on this street for the past 25 years and has seen everything and nothing and was waiting for me to do or say something that he can sort me somewhere in between. Eventually he just moved on to the next door. I guess I'm a nothing.

In any case, he must have been aware of my presence from the very start. And true to his service's motto, "Neither rain, nor sleet, nor gloom of night" -- nor a photographer hiding in the bushes -- "stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."

Haha - That's funny! It does look a little like you could be hiding in the bushes!
