Default Swing Dancing at the Brooklyn Promenade

Okay, I went to take some photos in the toughest condition I have ever taken photos in. High action no lighting except for a flash.

yea there are some good photos in there. and that does look like tough shooting conditions, with them moving so quickly you are naturally going to miss focus on a few of them.

definitely a fun series!

Thanks Hards and Jelpee,

Hards it was really tough. It is actually harder to shoot them indoors over shooting them outdoors. They have more dancing space to generate power, so faster jumps, spins, twirls. I had more OOF shooting outdoors dance then when they dance indoors, they got confined in so it is not as fast as outdoor.

Thanks DSP,

I think I could have done a bit better, next time I will set the flash to HSS. And stick with a short lens for the night shots.

Some nice shots, but the noise really hurts them. With a good external flash there's no reason to shoot at 6400 like that. As Mark mentioned in your other post, you don't use shutter speed to stop motion with flash you use the flash itself. HSS is best used for fill flash in good lighting, it really isn't suited for stop action photography. In those same conditions, drop the ISO down to 1600 and your shots will get better - as long as you have a strong enough external flash.
