Default Sinterklaas

This is Sinterklaas, the Dutch Santa. Every year on the 5th December he celebrates his birthday with a BIG present night. He is assisted by his Zwarte Pieten who roam the roofs at night (3 weeks before his real birthday) and surprise the children with little gifts in their shoe, that is if the sang a song .

I LOVE this shot because it captures the atmosphere of Sinterklaas while he is talking to the children, it really has the feel of being there watching over his shoulder. Well that's possible offcourse when you are the PhotoPiet .

Hope you all like it too.

Greetings,
Frank

Hi Frank

I like your shot too. Your santa is much different from the danish one. He looks just like the american.

Do you have a frontal shot of this guy ?

Frank, this is a wonderful photo filled with color and implied action.

U.S. Claus wears pants, black boots, and a floppy hat. All that red and white, however, sure is similar.

Frank,

Our tropical version of Santa looks a little bit different. The barefeet are a trademark of the laid back Hawaiian culture and Mrs. Santa's dress is a Muumuu another Hawaiian tradition.

Thanks for educating us on what other Xmas traditions are like.

Hi,

Sinterklaas is no Xmas festivity.
With Xmas we also have Santa Claus in the same appearence as in the US, the round guy with the black boots and the snow head .

To be honest the last few years Santa is winning from Sinterklaas and I think that's a shame, Sinterklaas is much more fun for the kids because they have at least 2 weeks of singing to the chimney to get some candy in their shoe, and Sinterklaas is offcourse visiting in person all the children on the night of the 5th December with all his zwarte pieten, (will post a picture of that today ).

One thing is for sure, December is really an expensive month over here, but because our company is in retail (PC's and Home Theater) this is also a very nice and busy month.

Greetings,
Frank

Combining this with Sinterklaas, it must indeed be an expensive month! I like the whole idea of Sinterklaas because it seems funnier, less greedy than Santa Claus. Isn't Santa Claus really just an overblown and very commercial version of the far more romantic European characters such as Sinterklaas?
