Default Bon Dance

Went to a Bon Dance on Friday night. During the Obon season, Japanese Buddhists honor their ancestors.

Very colorful and festive. Comments welcome.

Nice picks. How the things change. I was reading in your link (thanks for that):

Obon is a shortened form of Ullambana (Japanese: 于蘭盆會 or 盂蘭盆會, urabon'e). It is Sanskrit for "hanging upside down" and implies great suffering[2]. The Japanese believe they should ameliorate the suffering of the "Urabanna".Obon is a shortened form of Ullambana (Japanese: 于蘭盆會 or 盂蘭盆會, urabon'e). Thanks for looking Ordo. It was fun and quite loud with the live music and drumming. Lots of good food also.

Paniolo,
Very nicely done. I was trying to figure out where these were taken but couldn'y get any clues. Also they are so bright sd if taken during the day rather than evening.
Keep clicking away.
Aloha

Hi Selvin,

They were taken at the Jikoen Hongwanji at the corner of Likelike and School. The first three were taken before sunset (about 6:30) so it was still quite bright. I may have used a fill flash for the first to reduce shadows. The last was taken later at night, with onboard flash. I also took many others at ISO 3200 which turned out quite well.

Mahalo for the look!

PS, the Black Pearl will be at Heeia Kea Pier for the next two weeks - a good opportunity.

I was able to take several more at night.
