Default Battle of Wits

My friend borrowed my camera for a trip to San Francisco and she hid in the bushes to take this shot of some men playing checkers. The original is in color. I ran this through the sepia filter in Photoshop.

Were it not for a somewhat fatal flaw, this photo could be positively gorgeous. The flaw? The heads of the people in the background have gone missing. It's something I'm sure we've all done: we get so focused on the subject that we forget to see what's going on in the background. (All my Christmas pictures feature people with trees growing out of their heads.)

I thought about removing the people in the background, but I just haven't taken the time to do it. I've gotten used to the picture, so its no longer a distraction to me. Now that you've brought it up, I'm going to go ahead and do it. My friend was more concerned about getting a shot before anyone saw her. You know how it goes, as soon as someone sees a camera everyone turns to see what you're doing and the moment is gone.

Yes, it's better to get the shot regardless of interference in the background even if, like my Christmas photos, people are sprouting trees from their heads. Your photo simply needs a little help; mine are hopeless.

The digital darkroom, what a wonderful tool. Very nice photo.

I really love sepia, I like this photo. I would redo it though and take out the people with the missing heads

I agree with previous comments. Great shot and love the enthusiasm of all involved. One other distraction, IMO, is the hand truck on the right. Everything is framed well by the back of the bench and then there's this "thing" on the right. I do realize you must capture the moment though. Great job of doing that.
