did you try it the other way too the sun set in focus and her out? nice flash work

No, I didn't.
I always focus on the model first then close down the aperture to include as much background as I desire. They were both taken at f/6.7, so not shallow or deep, kind of in the middle.

Maybe this is too much background for some to not want more of it to be in focus.
Here's another without so much background.

Personally I like more background with this location. But others may prefer different.
