Default Morgan pic, need opinions...

My friend came over today and her daughter let me take some shots of her for around 4 min. before declaring, "we're done"...lol. That's kids for you. I would appreciate some constructive criticism (i.e., lighting, sharpness, pose, etc.). Thanks!

Amy

Default Framing

You could have framed the image a little better. I would have come down closer to the top of her head & moved to the right so the left side of the frame would be right up to her elbow. That would place her head in the top left corner, plus removed the cut off arms, hands, etc & moved the rest of her body into the picture.

"Fill the frame with your subject, Luke." "Remember, your subject is more interesting if not centered, Grasshopper"...Lol. My 2 cents & worth what you actually paid.

wow, that was quick...should I do any cropping to remove some of that background on the left hand side and a little above her head? How much space/background should be above a subject's head? Thanks!

Default Cropping

Yes you could crop from her elbow to just abover her hair & eliminate some of the purple. That should make the image more pleasing to the eye (of course, doing it while shooting is easier).

I sometimes crop off parts of the head altogether when shooting (as seen below).

LOL...That's hillarious! I can just hear him as he works on that photo: "Hmmm let's see...If I put her entire head in the shot, I'll have to crop off half her boobs. We can't have that. Nobody's going to be looking at the top of her head anyway."

Good job on the lighting. I see you're enjoying your new alien bees. I would frame it so you don't cut any of her off, and pose her so she's a bit straighter, something like this.

Amytude, now that I look at it, yours might not be that bad if you cropped the top and left, and vignetted the background a bit like this.
