I had the chance to work with a wonderful model and liked both of these shots. If I were to use only one, which should it be. Obviously they are cropped from the originals which show more of the hood, but the harsher transition to black in one has me wondering. Thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

I would imagine that if you took the first image & brought out the shadows about half as much as the second image, you'd have it. Nice shots too.

Going from my emotional responce I was immidiatly more attracted to the firt one. If I was to attempt to quantify why, I would guess it has something to so with the shadowing and the mouth and eyebrow positions.

Number 1.
Also the mouth is much better on number 1.

Thanks all, I appreciate the feedback. I also like the first and was going to try to burn the bottom left corner to provide a less distracting and more circular look, keeping the movement of the viewers eye moving around and back to the face. Thanks again.

Flint, the first picture seems the much better one to me. Her eyes seem much more penetrating and there are no furrows on her forehead in that shot.

I agree. Also, I have darkened the bottom left corner of the first one now to give a vignetted appearance and less of the bright red distraction previously there.

Hmmm....as I re-visit this thread, I see the compression didn't do justice to my burn-in. Trust me, it's better than it looks here and adds significantly, I think, to the overall effect.
