To be honest I used a 75-300 a very long time ago and I hated it, couldn't get one sharp picture from it, it was the non usm version but it was very very soft, so I sold it.

It depends on the retouching, for some shots I want to have a ultra smooth skin.
And sometimes I want it totally natural, both is an option.

Hi,
Most of the time I use a sort of airbrush techique with a wacom tablet.
A clone tool with an opactiy of 20-40% and just paint the skin new.
Also a layer with gaussian blur is used sometimes with only the skin selected.
