While I was shooting landscape, these two gypsy girls asked me if I mind taking a photo of them :-)
I find the outgoing manner of these people whom you can occasionally see around here, quite outstanding as well as their dressing style...

Oh! What a pleasant surprise..Çok çok teşekkür ederim, akuarist :-)
(and btw I hope the moderators would just ignore a few words in my native language:lol
You ask the model of my camera. It's a humble 3.2mp camera,
Canon a510. Yet I love its full manual option and portability..

Yours is a double surprise, Tom, telling me that's what you were going to say as with akuarist. Sounds more than only a bright guess :-)
In fact you've just arrived in a desperate situation, as I was trying to understand what was that wrong in this shot to receive about 300 views and no comment at all :?:
I'd certainly find any negative comment much more helpful than nothingness..

Interesting photo Bahadir,

Also interesting that they asked you to take a photo of them. There are many gypsies in Romania, and SOME of them ask or enjoy having their photos taken, while others only do it as part of a "paid tourist" scheme....

Here are two photos of gypsies in a town in Romania in colourful apparrel, and their family/s are very rich... whereas other gypsy folk here are very poor and don't live in vilas (as the people in these photos do).

What proportion of people in Turkey (or in your region) might be classified as "gypsy"?

Paul

Thanks for your kind interest and additional photos, Paul. I see a great resemblance in their dressing style. But here they have more of blonde complexion(especially their girls)
In Turkish Gypsy is called 'çingene' or 'Roman'. Btw, there's also a well known fashion company in Turkey with their exclusive boutiques, called Roman. So, Roman as an adjective also refers to unorthodoxy in behaviour and taste. There are about 500 thousand of them according to official figures and 2mio. according to unofficial figures, most of whom have a sedantry life, but in their quarters, usually. Although they are acknowledged for their outgoing manner, they tend to lead a strictly endogamious life.
Oh! and music is considered to be a important aspect in their life for they all can play the kettledrum very joyfully.:-)

Congratulations akuarist. That's a good camera indeed, for it offers many great features for manuel use and a swivel lcd display of course!
On its sensor, try to capture and collect as many pixels of joy as you can, in a world which might appear so flat otherwise..

Mike, thanks for your appreciation. Generally speaking, these vivid colours, combinations of 'gypsy' pink especially, and various matching designs are a distinct complete story, actually :-)
