Please be aware of the forum title "Critiques and Techniques". Therefore, if you post an image here you are effectively requesting others to critique the image.

By definition, a Critique is:
A. A critical review or commentary, especially one dealing with works of art or literature.
B. A critical discussion of a specified topic.
C. The art of criticism.

If you do not want your image to be open to critical comments, do not post it here!

On to the guidelines...

1. Be Nice
No matter how bad you think something posted actually is, do not flame or deride the author. Many here are interested in improving their style and mechanics, and are far from perfect. If you encounter a post for which you can offer constructive advice, do critique.

2. Be Honest
If you do not like an image posted, say so. But also remember to say why you do not like the image, and if you can, explain how you think it might be improved.

3. Be Constructive
Critiques should always be constructive, i.e., giving your ideas as to how you think things could be improved. If you cannot give a constructive critique, please refrain from posting negative comments. If you like an image, say so & say why you liked it.

4. Be Concise
Please post only one image per thread...this will allow each image to be judged on it's own merits and keeps the thread on topic. A critique which picks apart every detail of the image posted had better be worth the time reading it.

5. Be Respectful
You may find the occasional "something bothers me about the mouth" (or similar) notice in a post. If you encounter it, please respect it and focus your critique on that particular part of the image. Also, please refrain from "hijacking" threads by including your own images for critique...if you are unsure, start a new thread.

6. Keep Netiquette In Mind
All posts on Steves Forums are expected to be civil. If you can't behave in an adult manner, perhaps you should not post at all. Choosing to ignore this guideline is an open invitation to find yourself banned...it's up to you!

7. Be Considerate
Even the worst posts deserve some sort of feedback. This Forum is for those that want to improve their skills. In order to do so, they need good, constructive critiques. There are a lot of people here who have different levels of skills and different skills altogether. Some may choose to shoot in a style that is purly edited by the camera, while others may be Photoshop Gurus...keep your mind open or don't post.

8. Be Patient
When you post an image, don't expect instant feedback. We are an International group & some people are asleep (or at work) when you hit the send button. Give people a chance to think about their ideas before they respond.

9. Be Forgiving
Many a post is made hastily (so that boss does not see, or spouse does not see, or author does not fall asleep or whatever). Be forgiving of obvious mistakes. There are many people here who are not native speakers of English. Please respect that they are doing their best to express themselves fluently. Be aware that a certain amount of good-natured gigging is likely to happen. Do not take puns personally.

10. Nudes
While we recognize that artistic nudes are a part of photography, we have an international community with varying standards of decency. Therefore, we insist that no images (or links to) images be posted that contain male or female genitalia, or any images that could be perceived as being pornographic. What is anacceptable artisticnude shall be at the sole discretion of the moderators and will not be subject to debate. If in doubt, ask a moderator before posting an image.
