Don't frame so the insect touches the top of the image. More DOF because the eyes and wingtips are not in focus.
EDIT: If possible try to shoot so that there are no distractions in the background. Even though the two twigs in the background are part of what the dragonfly is on, they tend to be distracting since they cut through his body. Try to move around and get things like that out of the background. |

i agree with widow here..
if you had moved over to the right just a little bit, you would have avoided the twigswhich intersect the body, made worse by theirbeing the same color as the dragon.. placing the insect lower in the frame with more empty space on top than bottom would have been nice too...also, try to keep the dragon out of the dead center of the frame .. having them "looking into the frame" by putting them on a one of the vertical 1/3 lines is a good idea.. so for this shot you would have him on the right 1/3 vertical and thus looking into the frame with deadspace to the left.. these rules of course are not set in stone, but are a good starting point.. very sharp capture though, this is agood first attempt.. look forward to more --------------------- dustin www.hardwickphotos.com |
