Hi, I hope you don't mind; I downloaded your picture and tried a couple things. On this color one I selected the rock and did a levels adj. on a separate layer. I then selected the sky and did the same thing.

I took the adjusted one and used the channel mixer for the BW.

Luis, very nice photo. The rock is a little dark, but overall this is a very pleasing image. The sunrays are a simple but effective touch. I would be thrilled if I had taken a photo like this. Thanks for sharing it with us.

definTELY prefer the original. i find only high contrast shots work well in b/w. I wouldnt mind seeing the same shot looking down the beach witout the view of the ocean. I feel if the ocean was kept out f the frame while suggesting its presence might create some nice tension.
the original is beautiful though. |

Given that the sun rays are coming from the opposite direction of where Luis is shooting from, it is understandable that the rock is dark. I think it is part of the photo and scenery. If you light up the rock, it seems to me thistakes away the natural look. You know it the play between light and shades.
I must confess though that ValleyKayaker has done a marvellous job of editing. Kind regards. Jaki |
