Scot, from an artistic viewpoint of particulars, there is merit in this shot: Good sillihoute of the tree, placement of the tree, sun rays sipping through the clouds, angle of shooting. However, I think some cropping is unvoidable. The large part dark patch on the right, some of the bottom too. Also I think it is light is not right perhaps a bit too dark. Hope others will be able to agree or disagree. Regards. Jaki.

a lot of drama here that is well captured, a very striking photo even if a bit dark in areas.

i wanted to capture the intencity of the mood when i took this.
i have a few of this at 1/230 and 1/200, but they didn't give me the "feel" i was shooting for. this one was at 1/280, and it added that dark, forboding feel of a horrible storm about to break. more so than the others. scot |

To get the whole of the tonal range that this scene presents, I think this one requires the use of a tripod, exposure bracketing and a little added layered love in PS. Powerful image. Very close to being truly majestic. That being said... I am sure the added gamut available on paper improves this dramatically.
Out of curiousity, did you shoot this in RAW? |
