Hi Steve,
I fear you are, unfortunately! I also feel the highlights are blown on a lot of the photo, and the contrast's a bit lacking. With that kind of subject matter though, I'm sure if you keep shooting you'll get a better shot soon enough! :| Best wishes, -Ben |

Ben said what most of what needs to be said. How did you select your exposure? Did you use matrix metering? Perhaps spot- or center-weighted focusing would help eliminate the blown highlights.
Please go back and shoot more - you have access to some lovely subjects. |

Think you are spot on there Lady - I was playing with the metering and think I may have been on Pattern. Don't know what's happend to the Exif but I'm not seeing it from my home machine.

I dont think spot/center metering would help here at all, I think it would make it worse. If you meter on the already darker subjects the highlights of the bright reflections would be especially overblown.

Yes, the highlights are quite blown... Where did you meter for the shot??:?

I highly disagree with everyones comments, especially the seargents. You just need a bit more experience, the lpicture is nice. Keep shooting!:blah:

I rather think the bright reflections from the waves give this a very pleasing look. Without the plants sticking up in the foreground, this would be really terrific. Highlights on momma's head are a bit blown, though. Your EXIF indicates an exposure comp of +2/3s, which may be where the you lost the highlights. The high contrast in this scene also causes some loss of detail in shadows. If you get a chance for this kind of shot again, you might want to bracket and combine for HDR. (your EXIF also say you have PSE 4, which I think does this)

Thanks everyone for the comments - all duly noted. It was actually the highlights on the water and the grass in the foreground that initially drew me to the shot.
