Thanks Bert for the link. Again, you are absolutely right. I do have a rule of thirds framing tool in my camera. I just forget to use it.
I think the point I was making with your pic, which incidently I really do like, is that the rule doesn't always need apply and need not to make a good pic. Something I have learned already. I take my camera nearly everywhere I go and occasionally something comes up that I want to capture and speed is the of the essence sometimes. I think "I can always crop/edit later". However, as I've said I really do have a lot to learn and hopefully all this will come as second nature one day. Rather than just aim and snap I must remember to frame better and consider the best angle, exposure, lighting, white balance etc. My new 9500 comes equipped with a live histogram which should make things easiertoo.
