I took this with my Canon A85 in late July, just before sunset. He's fishing at the end ofa cottage dock and had no ideaI was taking the picture. I don't recall the mode or settings, but I shut the flash off andrestedmy elbowson the bow of the boat, which was already up on the lift.

its a good shot.. very pleasant colors and silhouettes..
a few things.. your horizon is tipped a bit.. and i would like you have left a little more room on the right, that would have avoided the awkward crop on the circle and put your fisherman closer to a 1/3.. still, a good showing.. -dustin |

Overall, an interesting shot of a nice subject. In addition to keeping your horizon straight, I would try to avoid having the horizon cut through the middle of the subject's head. That bugs me for some reason. If you get another chance to do a similar shot you may want to change the angle to get more of the silhouette against the sky rather than the water. This will also keep the horizon from slicing his head in half. As Dustin mentioned, you may want to work on the composition some more too.
Having said all that, I really like the idea. If you can work on this some more in future shots I know you can make a real winner of it. |

Thanks for the feedback Aumma,Dustin and Ladyhawk. I'll definitely pay more attention to the horizon in the future. I never realized until now that it was tipped. (I'm very new at this and I'm better at recognizing opportunities than I am at taking photographs.)
I'll remember your suggestions for the coming summer. I'll have many more opportunities to take similar photos. Thanks again. I really appreciate the feedback. |

Here's another version with the horizon corrected. I rotated CCW by 1 degree and now it's level. I don't know if there's much I can do about how the image was cropped.
