I tried to get a blue sky but I always lose too much red her skin.

You should be able to adjust the sky's color independant of the skin color. I just finished posing this question last week in my digital photography class, and we did it it in photoshop using levels. I really was impressed, but I am fairly new to the procedure, tho someone here surely can explain it. It was a bit different for me since we use Mac's in class and I have a PC. I have Photoshop elements tho and am currently experimenting with that same thing as homework.
