Hello everyone. Please let me know you think. The DOF was intentional and so was the background. It looked so surreal, how the bright blossoms looked all together. I had to take a picture of it.

Hi,
I think the DOF is good but unfortunately the background is working against you. The white flower kinda gets lost in the white background. The sharpness is also very good - I would like to see that flower against a different background maybe the blue sky? Dom |

Hi Aaron,
The shot has a lot of merit and I like the shallow DOF. It is also nicely sharp, and well exposed. I do agree with Dom on the background though. One way I've had success with getting a good background is to go outside when the light's fading (even dusk-time), use manual focus, and set the flash onto a low intensity setting (if you can). With a bit of experimenting, this gives nicely exposed flowers and a dark/black background. I think I have an e.g. on my site: www.digitaldreaming.org.uk (goto Nature, and it's in there somewhere). Hope this is of some use! Best, -Ben |

Nicely focused subject Aaron butI have to agree that the background colour overwhelms the subject.

please have another try though- that's a beauty of a flower i think you can make it work. in addition to it's being lost against the background, the crop's a little tight on bottom, i'd give it just a bit more room for better balance.
