johnson.
be considerate of your backgrounds.. if you notice there is a sign behind your friend that seems to be growing out of his heads.. also just the general clutter in the background is distracting.. try to find an angle that minimizes these distractions.. also the reflections on the table are a bit distracting.. you want to compose your shot so that your eye is on your subject alone.. to do this, you need to make sure your subject is razor sharp and the background is blurred and free of objects that could pull attention away.. i am not sure if you meant to do so, but i guess you realize you are focused on the knee and not the face.. normally focus on the eyes.. watch your lighting too, this one, his silhouetted face is in shadow, you would need flash in this lighting for sure.. if you haven't done so, get an external flash such asa 420ex or sigma 500dg super.. they will greatly improve the look of your flash shots, especially if you learn to bounce it.. this is a snapshot, i can tell that.. but even with snapshots you need to be thinking the same as if it were a setup shot.. maybe you don't control everthing quite the same, but you still must do what you can to TRY to control these elements.. i think if you are mindful of these things, your snapshots AND your set up shots will improve immensly.. thanks for stepping up and always being willing to share your photos and comments.. best regards, dustin |

thank you for your suggestions dustin. i do own a 420ex flash but did not use it here because i didn't feel like pullin it out and we were just going to be sittin there for a few minutes. i was goin for the reflection on the table, and i enjoyed the colors that were present on the table and around the room. i think the flash may have disturbed them a bit. i realize his knee is in focus but i wasn't really trying to draw the viewers eye to his face or really anything in particular, just the feel and color of the room and table, as well as the reflections. thanks again for your suggestions!

I love the reflections on the table, but the focus on the knee bugs me a little.
Best regards, Mag |
