I volunteered to scan some photos for a family member a while back so everyone could get a copy. While I started doing that, I also decided it might be fun to colorize some. I know that some of the hair does not look natural - still trying to play with that. Any other suggestions for improvements??? This photo is from the early 1920's.

I agree, I think you did a very good job on these. May I ask what how you did this? If it's all by hand, i admire you greatly. If it isn't all by hand, there is still some admiration for you.

Thanks. I know as much about photo restoration as I do PS Elements 3 - just enough to make me dangerous ! ! ! I "painted" each color using a hue/saturation layer.A few people have the same hair color - because I did them on the same layer. Once finished with this pic, I probably had at least 15+ layers. Like I said before - don't know if this was the easiest/best way, but for the most part I liked the results. The pic on the web doesn't seem as vibrant as the one I see on Photoshop. I just think the picture comes to life once it is in color.
Thanks again for the nice comments ![]() |

What is there to say except....WELL DONE!
![]() I think you have done an exceptional job. The colors look just fine on my screen. As for all the layers, I know enough to make me dangerous too, I think you went about it the right way to control the intencity of the colors. I don't know if you also used the opacity slider but that is another way to tone down or blend colors into a B & W, in my limited (very limited mind you) experience. |
