kinda interesting.
wasn't sure if you wanted part of the dog's head out of focus. |

Thanks, yes going for just the eye area in focusits actually going to be a fairly big print and when looked at from a distance I really want the viewer to be pulled in to his expression.

I really don't like the DOF of this picture at all. Instead of being pulled to the dog's expression, I am pulled into his OOF nose.

One could argue it gives the dog a pugnacious look, like the dog is a real character from an old 20's movie.

I have virtually the same picture but whith a much deeper dof, and out of the two I chose this as the better!
Now im wondering if I just have an odd preference or if the shallow dof works! Id appreciate anyone elses feedback to give me a bit more of an ide of opinion on this. Cheers |

if the oof area was behind the dog i think shallow dof would work, but with the oof area prominent in the fore-part of the image and on such an important part of the dog as the muzzle, i think it would like to see more dof..

Thanks Geminichild, he is a staffordshire bull terrier and is actually from staffordshire in the UK.
Hards I did originally have the shot with a beautifully in focus nose and blurry eyes! out of the two this was prefferable, but I think you are right if I could get enough dof to allow the muzzle and eyes to be in focus I think I may be better off. |
