Here's my first attempt at black & white; in addition to desaturating it, I played with curves, levels, and contrast. I also added a small amount of noise to the picture.

Below is the original shot:

Interesting IMHO, but would've given a little less sky in the B&W. Just my preference only because there's just white space. I think that opinion would be different if there were more interesting cloud formations or what not. Just my thoughts.

I like the black and white convesrion. I agree with LT that the pic could do with some of the sky being cropped. I even think just cropping the sky to a square ratio would work nicely.

I agree with LT7, and would just add that to my eye the color picture is more interesting. These are nice, subtle colors. Why get rid of them?

Apart from what has already been mentioned I would clone out the "poop" on the tires and maybe would have cleared out the twigs from in front of the prominent tyre. I agree the colour is nice - very soft pastelly and muted. The BW doesnt really do it here... lacks contrast- really needs some punch!
