With a simple portrait.

Very nice! The look of an old, hand tinted photo, a lovely model, and a nice, clean composition. Difficult to find anything to criticize unless it is the lamp position relative to the vase of flowers.

Thanks Brian.

Great shot Mike! I have to agree with my aviator buddy on his assessment of the lamp/flower arrangement. Other than that, when are you going to sit for a portrait and let your better half do the shooting?? :)

Thanks Robert.
Yep,the offset lamp & flowers are a bit distracting.
Careful there, you really don't want her photographing me posing. There are a few but I'm doing everyone a favor and not showing them.

Taking another look has me thinking that either the lamp or the flowers would work really well.
I'm not terribly photogenic myself - in fact, when people get tired of their old cameras and want an excuse to get a new one, they come around to take my photo.

good shot
nice technique and result

w/o the flowers you would have the typical triangle composition

I would only say this was a good shot if you caught her sipping her drink. This looks like a mock-up of say a morgue or cemetery scene, which is what it is and why I like it.

Didn't get the whole RETRO part, huh?

BrandonParsons Feb 28, 2014 12:15 PM

Oh, I get it. I saw that when I first saw this picture. Nice Work!
