its a bit too high contrast for me... which makes it rather harsh to the eyes.. just my opinion though..

I also find it to be a little bit too high-key, but I like what I think you're trying to do. Why didn't the original image work? Too dark, too bright. . .?

High contrast works best if there is a better balance of light and dark. In this case there is too much light. It might work better if you darken the whole photo.
