Well after a stay in hospital and learning to walk again, I decided to venture out with my trusty Fuji S602 Zoom and attempt a few photographs for you guys to critique for me, and here is the final result.
I know it looks underexposed, this is because I forgot to take the dam filter off the lens! I amcomplete novice atphotography, so give me your honest opinions please, and if possible point me towards where I am going wrong. Speed - 1/340 F-Stop- 4.5 ISO - 200 |

I think it's exposed quite nicely but is a little soft.Did you use a tripod?

Nope, just lent against a bin and took the shot.
It was more a spontainous sort of photograph than a well planned one. Swan walked along, stopped, took a good look at me, and theres my shot. I cant use my tripod at the moment I have real problems walking, so its impossible to carry it, and my wife sure aint gonna stand in the cold holding my tripod (yes, it did sound a bit rude). She just sat in the car and cursed me for taking her out in the cold :-) |

it is underexposed a bit... that is the trouble with white objects that fill the frame, they trick your camera into treating them as a neutral grey.. next time, overexposea bit until you get brilliant white.. don't go too far or you will blow the white and lose detail..
its a bit of a static shot, i would have preffered a more dynamic "pose".. maybe 2/3 profile sorta looking towards the camera.. still, its a majestic bird and worth photographying at every chance.. thanks for sharing.. -dustin |

btw- best of luck with your rehabilitation.. taking increasingly longer walks with your camera can be an excellent way to regain the endurance you need.. :-)
