Many thanks to all the advice fellow members left me on my previous string.
I took all you advice on board and have produced this shot tonight. Again, any pointers or advice you can give would be greatly appreachated. The shot was taken using a 4 second shutter speed at F8, and again, with no flash, I used a 20 wattlamp for illumination, and this time I also used a tripod. After looking at the image again, it looks blurry, I tried soft focus in PSP9, and it looked good at the time but now in hind sight it looks kinda crap and makes the shot look like I shook the camera. Do you figure the cat moved any during the 4 seconds?? Or do you mean 1/4 second?

nope, cat was still, dam things too idle to move anyway.
Exposure was a whole 4 seconds. I screwed the crop above by adding soft focus to it in PSP9, I have the original if you would like to compaire. Plus I just noticed that I have given the cat a green tint! This shot looks crappier each time I look at it :G Kung Fu Alien. |

The exposure is better in this shot so for that reason, I'd say you are improving. I'm curious why you are shooting at f/8 though. Also, you might want to consider shooting with a faster ISO of 400 so you can get faster shutter speeds. There will be more noise at ISO 400, but a little extra noise may be better than images that are blurred.

As withmy lost shot, I am only using a 20 watt desk lamp for illumination, and it was situated about 6 feet from the subject and about 3 feet from the camera.
I tried to shoot at F2.8 for 2 seconds, but the image was very over exposed, so I went though the F-stops (is that the correct term?) and shutter speeds one by one until I found a setting that I though was satisfactory, and with much trial and error I eventually same toF8 anda shutterspeed of4 seconds. |
