I'm strictly a newby and would appreciate your help improving my technique.
Any suggestions and criticisms will be appreciated. Be brutally honest. Thanks, --M |

I am a total sucker for kitten pictures, as is my wife, so you won't get any criticism from us. Focus and exposure are spot on. Very nice.

Very nice. The only thing that bothers me at all is the patch of color behind the ear.

Bothers me too. Any suggestions from the Photoshop junkies? Should this be completely painted out? Just toned down?

A quick edit, with more care it will look great.
Just make a selection of the unwanted area, feathered by 2/3 pixels, thenuse the clone stamp tool, taking from the surrounding colour, and with the selection in place you can only clone in that area, so no damage to anything else. Then lightened slightly with a levels adjustment, andlittle bitmore gaussian blur to the background. I agree, it does look better without.....................but it is a great shot ![]() Stevekin. ![]() |

Major improvement, Stevekin! Thanks for helping with this example. I'm quite a novice with PS still, but I will try to recreate the steps you outlined.
I appreciate all the comments and assistance. Thanks, guys! --M |

I agree about the patch of colour behind the ear, but aside from that I think it's a great picture. The cat looks pensive, almost wistful!

Perhaps loses a little warmth in the fur, but I like the crop!

I wish the cat's right ear wasn't cut off. There's nothing interesting enough about the right side of your photo to justify the off-center composition.
