without digitially modifying it too much which I tend to like to do sometimes, this would be my preference

I really like this AMG. Giving the extra headroom really creates a nice vertical feel and a kind of space for the two to walk into.

Ya thanks, that`s what I was thinking, more room on top allows for a more pleasing composition. I also thought the blur made the depth of field realistic. Of coarse, once you start editing, you can go crazy, it could still look good, but not necessarily natural. So in this case, I wanted to stay realistic. Oh yeah, and I forgot, a slight color adjustment.

I just got back from a vacation so excuse the delayed reply...
AMG, yours was amongst the best. I think that added depth of field helped a lot! Thanks to everyone for their help! |

I was going to type a detailed account of everything I did to my version of the shot, but I went and lost track!
So, basically I cut theleft side of the shot, moved it in slightly and pasted it back in to make the shot tighter. Then used PSP9's clone brush to cover up the evidence, and to add a small amount of snow to the right hand side of the picture and to remove the water that was appearing over the railing in the foreground. I then adjusted the light settings to give the impression that the sun was shining in from the top left (east or west, you decide) Your comments please? |

Had to throw in my 2 cents.Since you mentioned B&W as an option try it this way.All B&W leaves the kids coat to washed out.

Iliked the crop done by AMG and added some selective lens blur in PS. I also converted it to sepia tone and added a layer mask to reveal the girl. I then added a soft focus effect to the entire picture and again added a layer mask to remove the soft focus from the girl and the adult's face.
