Default ITAP of a owl

Hey guys,

I just found the forum looking for some tips on my fz38.

I was at a fair this weekend and there were a few birds, so i took a picture and this is the best one (in my opinion)

I am not a advanced photographer by any means, I've only just started out to be honest. So any criticism, tips on the camera (still learning the settings) will be gratefully received!

also.. ITAP means "i took a picture" in case you were unaware. If there is any problems with this post, let me know and ill rectify!

Welcome to Steve's...
What I see here is a really shallow DOF...The owl's beak and beak area are in focus and the rest of the face, the focus drops off quickly...If you wanted a shallow DOF, then you got it, but if you want more of the owls face and body in focus, then you need to set your fstop to f8 or higher...The shot is just a bit dark as well...Lighter would bring out more color in the feathers and make the shot pop so to speak...Bump up your brightness and add a bit of contrast...I think you will like the results...I do like the photo...The little guy has a cute face...Thanks for posting...

i would like to see it brightened up a bit. i think you could have used a little fill flash to do that. also waiting til he looked at you for some eye contact would have improved the picture as well.

john made the point about the dof. i agree, could use a little more.
