Just started using the manual mode with the camera and getting acquainted with how everything should work. Here are a couple photos I would like critique on.

Not too bad, a few things, first of all before you snap a shot take an extra minute to line up and make sure the shot is straight, a tripod is the best for that, if you don't have one you should get one. This shot is also lacking some punch and sharpness. Keep working and improving, then you'll produce wonders.

G'day,
not bad for one of your first attempts. Some contrast and a little saturation wouldn't go astray here. Also by the looks of the subject in the background the building is under a rather large bridge of some sorts. Perhaps use the bridge in its enormity to contrast between the two subjects. thanks. That was straight from the camera so I haven't has a chance to even do any editing to it yet.
