The camera did pretty well on this one. The only post processing I did was lasso the bug body and ran a mild unsharp mask. I thought the exposure looked ok. Any comments? I'm just starting out...

Thanks for the kind words. I'm really enjoying this camera. It's leaps and bounds better than my old 4700Z.
Lucky for me the dragonfly didn't move much so it allowed me toexperiment withthe f stop. |

Very nice. I like it. I think It would be better to crop bit off from the left.

I knew the crop wasn't 100% correct. I wish the brown/dead pedals weren't in the shot. I tried cropping them out but it looked weird.
The insect was about 18 inches away from the camera. I remember I had a hard time getting a focus lock at full zoom. If you want to see a spectacular dragonfly shot head over to the dpreview.com fuji forum. Makes my photo look like poop. I think he used a S7000 (the big brother to my S5100). http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...hread=13669415 |

Beautiful! Every time I get within a few feet of a dragonfly, he's off!
Very nicely done. |

Great looking pic, to deal with the left just help it drop in to the rest of the DOF with a blur and then I changed the crop to leave an equal amount on the sides as you had on the top and bottom.
