Hey, I just recieved my new digicam today; Canon Powershot S2ISand am very exited after waiting a while for it to be shipped. Just went outside and tried my hand at taking photos of the moon for the first time. 12Xoptical/fullmanual/a bit of sharpening in ps.

hate it or love it, all comments welcome

First things, crop out some sky to put the moon on a third and run through neat image/noise ninja/other noise reducing program, then repost. That will help get most of the quick comments you'll get out of the way. Also, trying sizing the image a bit smaller for posting here, had to scroll quite a bit. Width of 768 pixels seems to work nicely for me.

Looks like you already started to have fun with your new camera!

In addition to Nate's suggestions, I think that you over-exposed the moon somewhat in this shot, and there's a resultant loss of detail in the top right hand third of the moon. I noticed from the EXIF data that you used pattern metering mode. For subjects that comprise a small overall area of the total image, and differ greatly in brightness from the rest of the shot (as the moon does in this case), I'd recommend using spot metering on the subject to ensure correct exposure.

Still, a nice shot :)

I look forward to more.
