I just bought my first SLR camera and am really "green" to the use of the camera. I took some pictures at the SF Zoo yesterday. CC welcome!

I'm going to concentrate on the first shot only for now... it's a pretty nice shot, especially considering you've just started with your SLR. Nikon D50 - nice camera
![]() I think the shot would have been better if you'd got more of the hippo's other eye area in, as the line of his eyebrow seems to end pretty abruptly. The sharpness and exposure are good. If you're going to keep taking these sorts of shots with subjects half in the water, a circular polarising filter might help you out some by cutting the glare off the water. For this shot, maybe try a closer crop around the eye and ear? Welcome to the forum - a nice start! Best wishes, -Ben |

Thanks for the help..... I am sure that I will be here often asking for help. I had a hard time getting that Hippo shot because he was moving but I still tried to get a close shot.

Animal shots are very challenging, because they just keep on moving about! You picked a difficult starting subject and came out with a very good result.

Nice shots there jb
I too am new to the Nikon D50. What lens did you get with the camera. I've just ordered a 80-400 OS sigma lens so i'll be like a big kid waiting for that to arrive I reckon. How do you like the D50 I think it is an excellent camera I really really like. Anyway Less about what i like back to the pics. Nice first shots I too like the Hippo Shot its a pity you didn't get the whole of the Peacock in shot. but a very good pic all the same. The Giraffe seems to be missing a ear he doesn't paint by chance ha ha ha. Welcome to world of slr. bodge |

I got a picture of the whole peacock but the background was too busy. Here is one of the bald eagle at the zoo.
