Personally I prefer the cat zoom, I can still tell what it is. Looks good.

Hope you don't mind Simon, for those with P&S's...............

Impossible to do with a P&S camera I'm guessing, correct?


Steve, this effect can be achieved very quickly in Photoshop. I know Elements 3 has radial blur, so, open your image, duplicate, as you always should. Go to Filter/Blur/Radial Blur. Now in Blur method select Zoom (the default is spin), leave the quality as Good. And now at the top adjust the slider. This depends on how much blur you want to create, so experiment. Try 50 first.

Also depending on where you would like the central point of the blur to be, you can move the Blur Center around to suit your image. If you would like to give a little focus to the central point then just grab the eraser and paint out the blur wherever you want to be rid of it.

A quick example.
